Indian Railways, Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Indian Railways (IR) plans to roll out 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper Trainsets by the financial year 2025-26. The new ultra-modern train sets a new benchmark in passenger comfort and convenience, boasting world-class facilities and best-in-class interiors. Recently, the state-owned BEML delivered one such trainset to Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF).
Vande Bharat Sleeper Launch
India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will be launched after necessary testing and trial runs. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled this trainset on September 1, 2024. The first Vande Sleeper train is expected to be flagged off in 2025.
Speaking to ETNOW.in, U Subba Rao, General Manager, ICF, Chennai has confirmed the development. “It will undergo oscillation trials and other trials for two months from 15th November after which it will be given for commercial service,” he said.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Routes
The national transporter has not yet announced the routes of the upcoming and much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. However, several routes have been proposed for the first Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. The first train will likely run between New Delhi and Pune or New Delhi to Srinagar.
Indian Railways: Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Production
Presently, a total of three companies are involved in the manufacturing of Vande Bharat Express’ Sleeper versions. These are – BEML, Kinet Railway Solutions Ltd, and Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd- BHEL consortium. A total of 210 such trainsets will be produced by these three firms.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Features
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train aims to revolutionize long-distance rail travel or an overnight journey in the country. It will provide a world-class travel experience and best-in-class amenities. It features Austenitic stainless-steel construction and is equipped with advanced crash-worthy elements, such as specially designed crash buffers and couplers, to maximize passenger safety. The Sleeper trainset of 16 cars will have a passenger capacity of 823 passengers, put together in first class AC, 2 Tier AC
and 3 Tier AC.
