After the earthquake in Taiwan, Japan experienced tremors of 6.3 magnitude, felt all the way to China. Japan has a total population of approximately 125 million, and the archipelago experiences around 1,500 earthquakes per year, most of which are mild.
Following the earthquake in Taiwan, Japan felt the latest tremors. On April 4, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck the eastern coast of Honshu. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake was 32 kilometers deep.
It’s worth noting that on April 3, after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake in Okinawa, Japan, a tsunami warning was issued. Subsequently, main airports in Okinawa suspended their flights.
Later that same day, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 struck the coastal areas of Taiwan, causing hills in the capital Taipei to shake and issuing a tsunami warning for southern Japan and the Philippines’ islands.
Tremors felt up to China
According to Reuters, the impact of the earthquake was felt as far as the city of Shanghai in China. As per China’s state media, the earthquake was also felt in Fujian province’s Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Ningde.
It’s worth mentioning that Japan is one of the countries most at risk of earthquakes in the world. Therefore, there are strict regulations regarding building construction to ensure that buildings can withstand the shocks of powerful earthquakes.

Taiwan also suffered significant damage from the earthquake, with nine deaths reported. The earthquake that occurred on Wednesday in Taiwan is considered the most powerful in the past 25 years, causing damage to several buildings and reports of stones slipping in many places. Nine people died in the earthquake.
More than a thousand people were injured in the earthquake. Of the nine people killed, at least four were inside Taroko National Park. According to the National Fire Agency, about 150 people are missing. About two dozen tourists and some other people were trapped in the park.
