My Phone’s Most Annoying Feature Saved My Life

It was just another ordinary day in my bustling city life. Rushing to catch the subway to work, I fumbled through my bag for my phone. But today, something unusual happened. Annoyingly, my phone’s battery had drained faster than ever, forcing me to plug it into a charger before I left for the day. Little did I know that this seemingly frustrating incident would soon become the most serendipitous moment of my life.

My daily commute was a tightly choreographed dance of avoiding eye contact, dodging crowds, and swiping through my phone to keep myself occupied. But with my phone tethered to the charger, I was disconnected from the digital world, forced to engage with my surroundings. That’s when I noticed her.

A little girl, no older than five, had become separated from her frantic mother in the crowd. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she looked lost and scared. Instinctively, I approached her, offering a reassuring smile. In my distraction, I had forgotten about my phone’s annoyingly low battery and the panic it had caused earlier.

I knelt down, trying to comfort the trembling child. Her mother was now frantically searching the platform, her voice choked with fear. I tried to calm the girl by engaging her in conversation, asking her name and what her favorite toy was. We started talking about her favorite cartoon character, and her tears began to subside. But still, there was no sign of her mother.
